About the album
Playlists is the debut album of Singaporean-Indian composer, Avik Chari. The album incorporates electronic influences from contemporary music styles within the realm of contemporary classical music. Avik wrote this album as an exploration into sound design, and as a way to communicate his ideas to audiences unaccustomed to classical music.
Each piece on the album utilizes different types of electronic ideas and sounds, such as ambient pads, rhythmic basses and kicks, organic synths over and under which more "traditional" instruments breathe, at times hidden under the surface and at others, soaring above.
Avik composed Playlists during his time at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he wanted to find ways to delve into his new found love of the electronic world, while also giving his performers ample time to shine.
